Once you have discovered the real love of God in Christ, you will become more and more aware of the liberty there is in Him. To know Him aright is to experience life abundant, and no other place will this be so apparent as in your relationship with others. Walking with Jesus in unbroken fellowship; assured of His undying love and acceptance with God your Father; and freed of your guilt, sense of inadequacy and fears, you will, for the first time in your life, be free to be loved and to love others. True and real love will be at home and at work in you, and some of life's greatest moments await you. Loneliness will be ended as the impulsive love of Christ reaches through you to others in their need.
Before returning to heaven via the cross, the Lord Jesus gave a new commandment:
"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."
A more literal translation might read: "All my teachings are to the end that you should love one another." The daily experience of this miracle of loving others as He loved you will also be the daily assurance of your real relationship with Him. Those who truly love Him in the reality of saving faith, keep this commandment. The love that you have for Him will burst forth in real love for others. Loving your brothers is evidence of dwelling in the light and is proof that you really do know Him.
